page-title-bar

We began operations in 1909 as the roll manufacturing division of the state-owned Yawata Steel Works, and we have been manufacturing steel rolling mill rolls for over 100 years.
The rolls we manufacture are an essential material for steel manufacturers to produce steel products such as steel sheets, steel plates, and section steel.
These steel products are used in automobiles, ships, trains, bridges, highways, buildings, apartments, home appliances, and elsewhere, enriching our lives and improving convenience.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Steel Corporation, which has world-class technological capabilities, ever since our founding we have been responding to ever-evolving and increasingly sophisticated rolling technology.
The rolling mill rolls we manufacture with our high level of technological expertise cultivated through experience have been used and are highly praised by Nippon Steel Corporation and other steel manufacturers around the world.
We have contributed and will continue to contribute to the development of a prosperous society by manufacturing and supplying high quality rolling mill rolls.

What are steel rolling mill rolls?

Steel rolling mill rolls are materials used in rolling mills (equipment used to form materials into steel plates and section steel by passing heated materials between rotating rolls set at the top and bottom, thereby applying pressure to the material) for steel manufacturers to manufacture steel products.
Roll sizes vary depending on the specifications of the rolling mill, but to give an example, rolls for hot-rolled steel sheets are large and cylindrical in shape with a diameter of about 1 meter and a length of about 5 meters, and they weigh as much as 10 tons.
Rolling mill rolls are required to have a smooth surface (surface roughening resistance), a long service life (wear resistance), and the ability to withstand high pressure (high toughness).
For this reason, the manufacture of rolling mill rolls requires a high level of engineering and manufacturing expertise because they are produced by satisfying combinations of requirements such as those for component design, manufacturing methods, heat treatment conditions, and surface grinding.

The idea behind our logo

The idea behind our logo

Our corporate logo was chosen in 2006 after soliciting ideas from within the company.
The initials of the company name ”Nippon Steel Rolls” are expressed in large letters,
and the central "S" is an image of the upper and lower rolls rolling steel plates.
By superimposing this over a map of the world,
we express our determination to work so that the rolls we produce will continue to be highly praised and used by customers around the globe.

The idea behind "Passion at our Core"

Upon the renewal of our website, we have created a slogan to convey the appeal of our company, Nippon Steel Rolls, and the passion of our employees.
We came up with a slogan that is uniquely our own by taking a fresh look at the company, the work we do, and the social significance of the rolls we produce.
To produce high quality rolls, while utilizing advanced and evolving technology as well as having a high level of skill and technical ability are essential, we also believe that it is important for each of us to take responsibility for and pride in our work, and to have a "sincere attitude toward roll making" and a "sense of unity in producing the highest quality rolls together."
We want the rolls we produce to make better steel products, and we want the people who choose our rolls to find them easy to use. When our employees work together with such thoughts in mind, we can make the best rolls possible.
Our passions are to share the sense of accomplishment and joy that can only be experienced on this team, to achieve our goal of becoming the number one roll manufacturer in the world, and to be willing to hone our own ambitions in the demanding world of craftsmanship.
We manufacture with such passions burning within us, and the rolls we make support industry and society. We are proud to say that this is the best way to express our responsibility and pride.
With passion at our core, we will continue to produce the highest quality rolls today under this motto.

Passion at our Core

Car and ship bodies, city skyscrapers, motorways, bridges and electrical appliances.
These are the things that make our lives more comfortable and most of them are made of "steel".
Changing shape and specification to suit different situations and purposes, steel is always there to support our lives.

So how is steel made?
Red-hot steel is transformed into different shapes and types of steel, such as flat steel, plate steel and moulded steel, by pressing and stretching.
Our "Roll" product breathes new life into a mere lump of steel to provide various shapes. "Roll" is a key to the quality of steel product.
"Roll" is required to be heat resistant to 1000 degrees temperature and have smooth surfaces all through. Our duty is to produce world-class high quality "Roll".
We deliver "Roll" made with our skill and passion.

From lightweight, beautifully rounded steel with the durability for car bodies, to shaped steel with the heavy duty for many years to come.
NSR rolls work behind the scenes in many places to support the industrial base and a prosperous society.
