We have succeeded in the practical application of high-speed steel (HSS) rolls with excellent wear resistance, surface roughening resistance, and toughness by the Continuous Pouring process for Cladding (CPC) , ahead of other companies. These CPC HSS rolls have been highly praised as revolutionary rolls in many hot rolling mills, including those of Nippon Steel Corporation, and their applications are rapidly expanding.

The CPC HSS roll is a highly functional composite roll that employs a special manufacturing method in which the molten metal (a material with excellent wear and surface roughening resistance), which will become the outer layer material, is continuously cast onto a tough steel core and then welded to the core.
By using high speed steel with high hardness and wear resistance for the outer layer material and tough forged steel for the core, the roll achieves highly superior performance, with wear resistance approximately five times higher, surface roughening resistance approximately four times higher, and toughness approximately two times higher than that of conventional high-alloy grain cast iron rolls.
Use of CPC HSS rolls has also brought about breakthroughs in the rolling process of steel manufacturers. In addition to the dramatic improvement in roll unit requirements, use of CPC HSS rolls brings a number of other significant benefits, including improved product quality (e.g., dimensional accuracy and surface quality of rolled products) and greatly eased roll-related restrictions on rolling, thereby improving operational efficiency and stock control during rolling.
